  • Russia’s Rosneft Oil Company and its partners on 15 October 2016 acquired India’s second biggest private oil firm Essar Oil in an all-cash deal valued at about 13 billion US dollars.
  • Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications and Maxis Communications Berhad (MCB), promoters of Aircel, on 14 September 2016 agreed to merge their wireless businesses to form the fourth-largest telecom operator in the country.
  • Sony Pictures Networks India on 31 August 2016 announced the acquisition of sports broadcasting business of Zee Entertainment for 385 million US dollar in an all-cash deal.
  • Unilever, the parent company of Hindustan Unilever (HUL), on 16 August 2016 acquired Swedish firm Blueair for an undisclosed sum. Blueair is a leading player in mobile air purification technology.
  • Flipkart Ltd on 26 July 2016 acquired online fashion portal Jabong through its unit Myntra in a move to maintain its position as the market leader.
  • Japan’s Softbank on 18 July 2016 agreed to acquire ARM Holdings, the U.K. based semiconductor firm, in a deal worth more than 32 billion US dollar.
  • Yatra Online, Inc. and Terrapin 3 Acquisition Corporation on 14 July 2016 entered into a definitive merger agreement. The transaction values Yatra at an enterprise value of 218 million dollars (1458 crore rupees).
  • IDFC Bank on 12 July 2016 signed a share purchase agreement to completely acquire South India-based lender Grama Vidiyal Micro Finance Ltd. for an undisclosed amount.
  • Search Giant Google on 6 July 2016 acquired Moodstocks, a startup based out of Paris that develops machine-learning based image recognition technology for smartphones.
  • Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL) on 5 July 2016 acquired global clothing brand Forever 21 in the Indian market for 26 million US dollars.
  • Technology services provider Tech Mahindra Ltd (TechM) on 22 June 2016 acquired UK-based digital transformation firm The BIO Agency Ltd. The acquisition was carried out in an all-cash deal for an enterprise value of up to 45 million pounds.
  • Microsoft Corporation  on 13 June 2016 announced that they  will acquire LinkedIn for 196 dollar per share in an all-cash transaction valued at 26.2 billion dollar.
  • Tata Power Co. Ltd on 12 June 2016 agreed to acquire renewable energy company Welspun Renewables Energy Pvt. Ltd.
  • JK Tyre and Industries Ltd on 18 April 2016 announced that it had completed the acquisition of tyre, tube and flap maker Cavendish Industries, a unit of Kesoram Industries Ltd, for 2195 crore rupees. Kesoram Industries is a B.K. Birla Group company.
  • Future Group in the first week of April 2016 acquired Rocket Internet’s online furniture platform FabFurnish for 20 crores rupees. It is the Future Group’s first acquisition of an e-commerce portal.
  • Blackstone India, the Indian arm of global private equity fund Blackstone Group on 4 April 2016 entered into a definitive agreement with Hewlett Packard Enterprise to buy a majority stake in Mphasis Limited.
  • E-commerce giant Flipkart on 1 April 2016 announced that it has acquired payments start-up PhonePe Internet Pvt. Ltd.
  • NTT Data, Inc. and Dell Inc. on 28 March 2016 announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement for NTT Data to acquire Dell Services.
  • Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power, on 9 March 2016 signed a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Indo Rama Renewables Limited (IRRL) to acquire its 100% subsidiary Indo Rama Renewables Jath Limited (IRRJL). IRRJL owns a 30 MW wind farm in Sangli District of Maharashtra.
  • Drug major Lupin on 9 March 2016 announced completion of the acquisition of privately held US-based GAVIS Pharmaceuticals LLC and Novel Laboratories (GAVIS).
  • UltraTech Cement Limited on 28 February 2016 entered into a binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jaiprakash Associates Limited for the acquisition of its identified cement plants for an enterprise value of 16500 crore rupees.
  • Wipro on 11 February 2016 announced signing of a definitive agreement to acquire HealthPlan Services from Water Street Healthcare Partners. Wipro will acquire 100 per cent of HealthPlan Services’ shares for a purchase consideration of 460 million US dollars.
  • Cognizant Technology Solutions on 27 January 2016 acquired the privately-held KBACE Technologies Inc., a US-based global consulting and technology services company specialising in cloud strategy, implementation and integration.
  • Mindtree on 18 January 2016 signed a definitive agreement to acquire Magnet 360, a Salesforce Platinum consulting partner. It was a deal to accelerate leadership in cloud computing and digital transformation.
  • Quikr on 7 January 2016 announced acquisition of the property search website Commonfloor.com for an undisclosed amount in a majority stock-swap transaction.
  • Nokia Corporation on 5 January 2016 announced that it completed the regulatory formalities for acquiring the French telecom equipment company Alca-Lucent. The deal, worth 15.6 billion euro, was signed in 2014 and later approved by the European Commission.
  • Leading automobile manufacturer Volvo Group on 5 January 2016 announced the merger of its bus manufacturing arm Volvo Buses India and joint company Mergers and Acquisitions(VIPL).
